There are some low-cost measures to harden your home and make it more fire resistant. Things you may consider: 

  • Cover roof edges with noncombustible metal drip edges
  • Cover attic vent openings with metal mesh, select ember & flame resistant vents
  • Install ignition-resistant soffits to protect eaves
  • Cover gutters with noncombustible material to prevent buildup
  • Use ignition-resistant material for walls
  • Install fire resistant windows and doors
  • Use noncombustible material for patio covers and decks
